The Ultrasonic Leak Detector is an instrument used to detect the presence of ultrasound signals or to evaluate the acoustic impact. It enables several industrial applications, but it is designed mainly to satisfy the needs of the electrical industry. The needs of this industry are most demanding since the quantity of air-generated ultrasounds is very low and a very short period of time.
This instrument is used mainly to identify insulation flaws or to detect the presence of pollutants on the insulators. It is very useful to prevent equipment failure or to ensure the safety of maintenance workers. Many manufacturers use the best package leak detector & seal integrity test equipment to test leaks.
The ULD is equipped with an ultrasound piezo-ceramic type sensor and with an amplification cone that gives the device an exceptional sensitivity. The cone enables the sensor to concentrate a larger part of the acoustic pressure on the sensor which mechanically increases the sensitivity of the instrument. It is also equipped with high-performance electronic circuits in order to amplify the electric signals without adding too much noise.
The main frequency of this sensor is 40 kHz. At that frequency, the ultrasound can travel a great distance with a minimum of signal reduction. This frequency enables long distance detection applications in order to respect the safety approach distances of high voltage components.
Use & Operation
The device is an instrument that transforms an ultrasound pressure into audible signals. It is a kind of frequency converter. An ultrasound acoustic vibration is converted into electric signals of the same frequency.
These signals are converted into frequency by a digital converter. This function enables a human's ear to detect the presence of ultrasounds. This instrument is equipped with another cone that allows a direct output of the sound signal.
